Stupid is as stupid does...

Not sure quite why – and I would highly doubt the stubborness Mary claims I have would have anything to do with it – but I ran the Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon on Sunday. The plan was to take it easy, run with friends and have fun, then stop somewhere between 13 and 18 miles. Only problem was that I was having a great time, feeling fine, and there was that attractive medal awaiting me at the finish. Not to mention I hadn’t done a marathon since 2006.

Then came Monday morning, and the right knee has been giving me grief ever since. So I’ve downgraded from my originally planned 50-mile ultra on 10/24 to the half marathon offering, a distance I don’t plan on surpassing in any single run between now and IMCDA.

Perhaps this shift in focus is a reflection of me getting wiser in my old age, though this wouldn’t explain running 26 miles 3 weeks after an IM. Frankly, I think it’s just the old age forcing me to get wiser, against all of the best judgment I can muster on my own.
